Preventative Dentistry

Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings

Twice a year checkups and cleanings enable our team to be proactive instead of reactive, meaning we can prevent cavities rather than just fix them after they’ve already popped up. After removing bacteria-filled plaque and tartar from your teeth and gums, your dentist will give you a thorough exam, looking for any signs of decay, damage, or infection. They’re often able to notice an issue even before a patient feels anything, and they can take care of it quickly and conservatively so it won’t turn into a big headache later.

Deep Cleaning" OR Scaling & Root Planing

Typically, gum disease is the result of bacteria-filled plaque and tartar accumulating below the gum line and causing damage to the nearby tissues. Scaling is a procedure used to systematically remove this buildup, and then root planing smooths the rough surfaces of the tooth roots. This encourages faster healing and makes someone less likely to develop an infection in the future. Depending on the extent of a patient’s gum disease, SRP may take multiple appointments to complete.

Arestin® Antibiotic Therapy

Small spaces between the teeth and gums called periodontal pockets can develop due to gum disease, which are areas where bacteria can easily thrive, multiply, and be missed during a deep cleaning. Antibiotic therapy involves applying medicine directly to the gums that slowly dissolves over the course of a week, enabling it to reach the deepest part of the pockets and eliminate the bacteria. It can also reduce the size of these pockets to lower the risk of reinfection.

Fluoride Treatments

While fluoride is strongly recommended for children, regular exposure to this helpful mineral is tremendously beneficial for patients of ALL ages, lowering the risk of cavities by strengthening the enamel. After we clean your teeth, we can coat them with a highly-concentrated fluoride paste, which will provide an added layer of protection all the way until your next cleaning.

Night Guards

Do you frequently wake up with a sore jaw or headache? These could be signs that you’re experiencing bruxism, which is unconscious teeth grinding during sleep. Over time, this condition can wear down the enamel, lead to cracks, and eventually fracture teeth, fillings, and crowns alike. We can provide you with a custom nightguard that places a soft but resilient barrier between your teeth so this can’t happen, helping you rest easy and keep your smile in one piece.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Did you know that up to 25% of oral cancer diagnoses are found in people who DON’T engage in high-risk behaviors like tobacco use or excessive alcohol consumption? Because of this, we perform an oral cancer screening whenever a patient comes to see us. This quick procedure allows us to find the disease early and help a patient begin treatment as soon as possible, maximizing their chance of a fast and full recovery.

Gingivectomy

This is a simple procedure performed with the laser to remove a portion of your gums around a tooth or teeth in order to lengthen the height or width of a tooth or a section of teeth. There is little to no down time and you can return to your normal routine immediately after.
